The Institute Of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) was established in the year 1984. It is run by Department of State Transport, Government of TamilNadu. It provides a congenial atmosphere for Technical Education. The Institute has excellent infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, library and highly qualified faculty members.
In 1947, private buses operated in Madras presidency were nationalised by the Government and‘Government BusService’ was started and then changed to ‘State Transport Department’ and then converted into ‘Public Sector Undertaking’ for improving efficiency through operational autonomy.
