Robert Enrico adapted three Ambrose Bierce short stories and subsequently made the best portmanteau horror film I’ve ever seen. Hated upon its initial release in France— the bastards were too enamored with new wave to appreciate it (as if I couldn’t despise that particular movement any more than I already do).
