  1. 2 days ago · Ash vs. Evil Dead, however, is the better of the two, thanks to a variance of enemies and dimension switching. But both offer old-school goodness, even if you’re not necessarily a fan of either franchise. The difficulty spikes may be a bit much, but RetroRealms still presents a damn fine package to enjoy this Halloween season.

At the Williams Family Home, Brandy Barr is getting ready for the "Midwinter Night's Dream" dance at her high school, though Ash protests that she can't go while evil is on the loose. Brandy explains that Ms. Prevett is going to be there, and she intends to find out if her trusted counselor is truly a demon in disguise (as Ash claims she is). After some encouragement from "Kelly", Ash agrees to let Brandy go to the dance, under the condition that he and Kelly be waiting to "swoop in for the kill" when Ruby shows her true nature.

Meanwhile, inside the attic of the Prevett Mansion, the contents within a large fleshy cocoon begins to writhe as Ruby reads from the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, it's movements becoming more erratic until a humanoid arm punctures through the slimy membrane. Out tumbles Ruby's doppelganger of Ash Williams, no longer a child, but a fully-grown man matching his original counterpart's age and build. Ruby joyfully welcomes her reborn offspring, eager to set her plan into motion that will destroy the real Ash and make the clone the new "Prophesied One". She tells the clone to cut off his flesh chainsaw hand and to get dressed, as the school dance is about to start. As Ruby walks away, the Evil Ash begins to yell as he slices into his wrist with a rusty meat saw...

Back at the cellar of Ashy Slashy's Hardware, a tearful Zoë gathers the belongings of her fallen fellow Knights of Sumeria as Pablo offers her his condolences, though their discussion is interrupted by a strange light and sound coming from the center of the deciphered incantations painted across the back wall. Pablo steps closer to the wall, realizing that voice and image is that of a panicked Kelly trapped within in a strange green void. Kelly explains that she tried to take on Ruby alone, but was ultimately killed by The Dark One with the Kandarian Dagger. Suddenly, the conversation is cut short as a shadowy shape materializes behind Kelly, and the image quickly disappears. Realizing his friend is dead, Pablo begins to cry.

Night has fallen as the Oldsmobile rolls up to Kenward County High School, where Ash goes over the plan with Brandy one more time. As one student entering the school passes by, he points out "Ashy Slashy" to a nearby police officer, prompting Ash to rethink his plan, and tells Brandy and "Kelly" to go in through the front entrance as he'll come in through the back to avoid detection. Once inside the gymnasium-turned dance hall, Kelly asks Brandy if she's noticed anything weird about Ash recently.

In one of the school's distant corridors, two students are enjoying a joint on the stairwell when "Ashy Slashy" slowly approaches, warning them of the dangers of smoking cannabis. Walking up the stairs until he is standing directly in front of them, Ash revs up his chainsaw as he forces the young couple against the wall before finally slicing into them with his blade. Their screams of agony and terror as Ash dismembers them is drowned out by the loud music inside the gymnasium, leaving the dancing students completely oblivious to the slaughter just down the hall.

Back inside the gym, Ruby (as Ms. Prevett) gets on stage and calls for the attention of the students within, delivering a short "remembrance" speech about the recent deaths of Candace Barr and Rachel Manning, asking for a moment of silence on their behalf. The speech leaves Brandy teary-eyed and unsure of her beliefs of Prevett's true intentions. After the moment of silence ends and the music returns, Ruby approaches "Kelly" and the emotional Brandy, asking them to follow her back to her office to talk. Though Brandy is somewhat reluctant, "Kelly" says that they should follow her, assures Brandy that she'll be right behind her.
