'Dr. Kornberg was one of the most distinguished and remarkable scientists in American medicine,' said Philip Pizzo, dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine.

  3. Arthur Kornberg was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1918 and educated in its public schools. He received his undergraduate degree in science from the City College of New York in 1937 and the M.D. degree from the University of Rochester in 1941.
