Arthur William Matthew Carney (November 4, 1918 – November 9, 2003) was an American actor and comedian. A recipient of an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and six Primetime Emmy Awards, he was best known for his role as Ed Norton on the sitcom The Honeymooners (1955–1956).
Carney died on November 9, 2003; he was 85. Carney is survived by his wife, Jean, three children, six grandchildren, and one grandson. His broad range of acting abilities may have been overshadowed by the character of Ed Norton, but that fact never seemed to hinder Carney.
Art Carney returned to radio work, now with one leg three-quarters of an inch shorter than the other and a noticeable limp that very often gave him pain. But, because it was radio, no one really noticed.
