Arthur William Matthew Carney (November 4, 1918 – November 9, 2003) was an American actor and comedian. A recipient of an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and six Primetime Emmy Awards, he was best known for his role as Ed Norton on the sitcom The Honeymooners (1955–1956).
Art Carney returned to radio work, now with one leg three-quarters of an inch shorter than the other and a noticeable limp that very often gave him pain. But, because it was radio, no one really noticed.
His death was attributed to unspecified "natural causes". He was 85 years old and had reportedly managed to stay sober since he originally quit drinking in 1974. He is interred at the Riverside Cemetery in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Carney was survived by his wife Jean Myers, who died in October 2012.
