The employees of Men's Wear and Lady's Wear are expected to work after hours. The employees soon notice two burglars enter the store. First, Miss Brahms is taken by the burglars and held in Mr. Rumbold's office. Captain Peacock and Mr. Spooner unsuccessfully try to deceive the burglars into believing they are policemen; they are held captive also.

Mr. Harman, Mrs. Slocombe, and Mr. Humphries come up with a plan to impersonate Pa Gumby, Mad Ma Gumby, and their son, Italian Tony, all members of an infamously dangerous gang. The three enter Rumbold's office wearing grandiose outfits, convincing the burglars they really are the Gumby Gang.
