There are currently 8 pre-Hardmode, 11 Hardmode, and 14 event bosses (33 in total) in Terraria. Each boss presents a unique challenge and defeating them is usually instrumental in advancing the game in some way. For instance, they often grant the player new materials for crafting higher tier items.
The Turtle is a critter which can spawn in bodies of water in the Forest during the day. They move slowly on land and swim at the surface of water. The Turtle has only 5 health and no defense, and can be damaged by other enemies and players.

Most bosses and mini-bosses can pass through blocks of all types, with the exception of King Slime, Queen Slime, Lepus, Turkor the Ungrateful's body, and the Flying Dutchman. For all non-event bosses, with the exception of the Lunatic Cultist, status messages appear when that boss is about to spawn or has already spawned.
The Giant Tortoise is a Hardmode enemy that spawns in the Jungle and Underground Jungle. It walks around slowly, and occasionally retracts into its shell. It then starts spinning and hurls itself at the player, gaining increased defense and dealing high contact damage. It drops Turtle Shells, which are vital for crafting Turtle armor.

Build a farm in the jungle that kills all mobs but turtles. Do NOT kill the turtles. after finishing the build wait for ~30 minutes and then see how many turtles have spawned. Some Tips: Uses the large size of the turtles to your advantage: smaller mobs can fit down smaller holes.
