Screamers is not a bad movie, there's genuine trade craft on display and there's clear passion in front of and behind the camera, but one can't help feeling a sense of deja vu thinking they've seen this movie before but better.
Jan 26, 1996 · If there’d been an otherworldly sci-fi category, “Screamers” would be right at the top of the list. It’s not exactly a bad movie; it’s made with a certain imagination and intelligence. But its future is so grungy and grim it makes our current mess look like Utopia.
I like both sci-fi and horror, and this looked like a great Terminator-esque hard sci-fi movie. Boy was that wrong. Although Peter Weller did a pretty good job, the plot felt disjointed the entire movie. And then there’s the surprise twist: everyone’s a screamer. No exceptions.
Screamers is a great movie. Love it. It’s not as bad as you think effects-wise. It holds up fairly well.
