Guinea pigs are very social animals which means they need contact with their own kind. Keeping guinea pigs on their own causes loneliness, boredom and fear and is no longer seen as acceptable. With this in mind you need to consider from the outset whether you have the space, time and finances for two or more guinea pigs, not just one.
