Older DVD players from good brands (Sony, Pioneer, etc) work great for this as most of them have optical and coaxial SP/DIF digital out and you can find many of them used for like $30 to $40. As you have an external DAC the answer is no. Unless you really miss just playing CD's, your money is better spent elsewhere.

Blu-ray players are fully compatible with CD, and have the benefit of also playing Blu-ray discs (both regular and 4k), as well as DVDs. They’re also generally cheaper. Ironically, many dedicated CD decks actually use Blu-ray drives, as they’re more widely available.
