Alice in Chains (often abbreviated as AIC) is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1987. Since 2006, the band's lineup has comprised vocalist/guitarists Jerry Cantrell and William DuVall , bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney .

Alice are often regarded as the first grunge band to successfully fuse seattle grunge with metal music, bridging a bit of a gap at the time. Layne was also one of the very few, if not only, vocalist in the Seattle scene that had formal vocal training (AIC were originally a hair metal band if I recall?)
