Sep 30, 2023 · ARC stands for Advance Reader Copy. These are digital or physical copies of your book that are sent pre-release day to individuals in exchange for their honest reviews. There is a notion going around that ARCs are sent so that your ARC readers can provide feedback and corrections.
Do clearly mark your ARC copies as “advance” and not final. Do proofread them before they go out! Do read reviewer guidelines and send ARCs to reviewers several months before you wish to publish. Do tell your readers what to expect in terms of your book genre.
An advanced reader copy is a paperback edition that is not yet complete and requires cover design or final proofreading. However, the majority of the completed material is already in place.

Publishers send uncorrected proofs and ARCs to bookstores, reviewers, bloggers, etc, ahead of the actual publication date to generate reviews and to give the store a chance to see if they want to order it.
