What is Special Education ARD? “Admission, Review, and Dismissal” (ARD) in special education refers to the procedure used to determine, review, and potentially change a student’s eligibility for special education services in the United States.
A.R.D. is an acronym for Admission, Review and Dismissal. An ARD meeting is held to admit a student into special education, as well as a minimum of once per year to review the child’s program and progress.
What Does ARD Mean in Special Education? ARD stands for Admission, Review, and Dismissal. It's a team, mandated by law, that makes important decisions about the education of a student who receives special education services.
The General Education Teacher: The general education teacher knows the curriculum for the student’s grade level and what students in general education classes are typically expected to do. The general education teacher will report on what the student will be taught and be expected to learn.
An ARD meeting is a meeting of a group of people who help to determine whether or not a student is eligible for special education. That group of people will be the ones who develop the Individual Education Program (IEP) if the student is eligible.
The term IEP means a written statement for each child with a disability that is developed, reviewed and revised in accordance with the ARD/IEP committee framework. The ARD committee must review the child's IEP periodically, but not less frequently than annually, to determine whether the annual goals are being achieved.
