The Collection contains two of the cartoons for the ceiling attributed to Agostino Carracci. Annibale's early work included naturalistic genre paintings, like the 'Bean Eaters'. Later he executed landscapes, important precursors of the classical landscapes of Domenichino, Claude and Poussin.
Annibale Carracci lived in the XVI – XVII cent., a remarkable figure of Italian Baroque. Find more works of this artist at Wikiart.org – best visual art database.

Annibale's death in Rome in 1609 brought an end to a career which spanned the three most revolutionary decades of Italian painting since the High Renaissance. His naturalistic style of the 1580s became the basis for one of the main trends of seventeenth-century art.
Overview. It might be said that with paintings like this one, Annibale Carracci invented the landscape as a subject for Italian baroque painting. Nature here is appreciated first and foremost for herself and not as the backdrop for a story. A mellow sunlight dapples the land and picks out the ripples disturbing the surface of the river.
During the 1580s, the Carracci were painting the most radical and innovative pictures in Europe. Annibale not only drew from nature, he created a new, broken brushwork to capture movement and the effects of light on form.
CARRACCI, LODOVICO, AGOSTINO, and ANNIBALE, three celebrated Italian painters, were born at Bologna in 1555, 1557, and 1560 respectively. Lodovico, the eldest, son of a butcher, was uncle to the two younger, Agostino and Annibale.
