This week marks the fiftieth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in Boutilier v. the Immigration and Naturalization Service (1967), which upheld the deportation of Clive Michael Boutilier (1933-2003), a U.S. permanent resident from Canada. Boutilier had migrated from Nova Scotia to New York in 1955.
Boutilier is best known for his role in Boutilier v. Immigration and Naturalization Service , a 1967 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. He applied for citizenship in 1963 and admitted that he had been arrested on sodomy charges in New York City in 1959, as well as revealing other details about his same-sex sexual history in Canada and the United States.
