- Mark Wahlberg. Before starring in movies ranging from Boogie Nights to The Family Plan, Mark Wahlberg was known as a rapper and a Calvin Klein model. Showing off his buff body in underwear ads helped give the aspiring star his start in the entertainment industry, with Mark shifting into acting just as his boy-band brother Donnie eventually did.
- Rebecca Romijn. In a career that saw her on Vogue magazine covers and in Victoria’s Secret campaigns, Rebecca Romijn put the “super” in “supermodel.” And then, in a move that only further strengthened that statement, she took her first acting gig as Mystique in X-Men, kickstarting a career that’s led to such fantastic parts as that of Number One on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
- Tyrese Gibson. Ads for Coca-Cola, Guess, and Tommy Hilfiger had Tyrese Gibson primed for stardom, and gigs on TV shows like Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper and Martin soon followed.
- Halle Berry. It’s no surprise that Halle Berry did some modeling in her entertainment career, as her beauty has always been well renowned. But rather than going for traditional ad campaign work, the future star of X-Men and James Bond movies was a contestant in both the Miss USA and Miss World pageants.
- Tyra Banks. This Victoria's Secret Angel, who was three times featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, is probably most-known for America's Next Top Model (and hosting other hit shows), but also had small parts in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Coyote Ugly, among others.
- Emily Ratajkowski. Remember Emily Ratajkowski's bit part in Gone Girl (and before that, a teeny tiny role in iCarly!)? Let's not forget her modeling work that includes walking at New York Fashion Week, starring on international Vogue covers, and appearing as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model.
- Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. While you might not be as familiar with Huntington-Whiteley's on-screen work, including smaller parts in Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Mad Max: Fury Road, you're probably more familiar with her modeling career, including as a Victoria's Secret Angel and Harper's Bazaar Model of the Year.
- Jaime King. Jaime King was discovered at 14 and had a successful modeling career, including in Vogue, on the Chanel runway, and for a Revlon campaign. She successfully transitioned to film and TV, including Pearl Harbor, Sin City, and Hart of Dixie (and continued modeling for part of that time).
- Brooklyn Decker. This week's issue of The Hollywood Reporter explores the challenges of going from fashion magazine cover to the big screen. Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover-girl Brooklyn Decker is making the jump with Just Go With It, opposite Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, and later this summer in Battleship.
- Models Into Movies: Milla Jovovich. The Ukraine-born 35-year-old went from L’Oreal and Versace to the firearms and toxic beasts of “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” which grossed $296 million worldwide.
- Models Into Movies: Cameron Diaz. The 38-year-old San Diego native modeled in Europe before turning her goofy everygirl charm into more than $5 billion in worldwide grosses from “The Mask” to “The Green Hornet.”
- Models Into Movies: Rene Russo. An early success, the 56-year-old graced Vogue and Cosmo, then went sultry and sassy in “Get Shorty,” “The Thomas Crown Affair” and two “Lethal Weapon” films.
