Alma Söderhjelm was a highly prolific scholarly writer. Her vast range of publications includes various kinds of academic works, essay collections, resource publications and memoirs, all in all 25 works and 34 editions. Söderhjelm felt at home with artists, writers and theatre people.

ALMA SÖDERHJELM revolutionary historian first woman professor 1870-1949: Alma Söderhjelm became the first Finnish woman to teach and be appointed docent at a university when she held a docentship in general history at the University of Helsinki between 1906 and 1926.
Söderhjelm, who studied the history of the French revolution, was appointed docent and subsequently professor. She did not pursue a feminist agenda as such, but certainly cleared the way for women to build an academic career for themselves.
