Dec 12, 2011 · As a purchaser of a motor, you have responsibility to let the manufacturer know the anticipated duty of the motor. To assist in the communication of this information, the standard IEC 60034-1 (Rotating electrical machines) defines several duty characteristics, denoted S1 to S10: S1. Continuous duty.
The Duty Cycles (S1 to S10) have been defined in IEC 60034-1 standard indicating the run cycles of electric motors and in case of the short or intermittent duty also the frequency of the run periods. The most frequently Duty Cycles specified by our customers are:
Dec 11, 2017 · For a motor suitable to this duty type, the rating at which the machine may be operated for an unlimited period is specified. This class of rating corresponds to the duty type whose appropriate abbreviation is S1.
The nameplate contains information about the construction characteristics and performance of the motor. The types of information that are shown include the number of phases, rated operating voltage, service duty, efficiency code, frame size, IP rating, insulation class and more.
The duty type S1 can be defined as operation at a constant load maintained for sufficient time to allow the machine to reach thermal equilibrium. For a motor suitable to this duty type, the rating at which the machine may be operated for an unlimited period is specified. This class of rating corresponds to the duty type
Unless specified otherwise, the rated power of the motor refers to duty type S1 (100 % cdf) according to IEC60034 (EN60034). If a motor designed for S1 and 100 % cdf is op-erated in mode S2 "short-time duty" or S3 "intermittent periodic duty", the rated power can be multiplied by the power increasing factor K specified on the nameplate.
IEC (the International Electrotechnical Commission) uses eight duty cycle designations to describe electrical motors operating conditions: IEC Electric Motor Duty Cycles. S1. Continuous duty. The motor works at a constant load for enough time to reach temperature equilibrium. S2.
