Oct 11, 1999 · Sony Co-Founder Akio Morita Dies at 78. On May 7, 1946, Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita founded Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corp.), which later became Sony Corp. in 1958. At the time, Ibuka was 38 years old and Morita was 25.
Biography: Akio Morita was a Japanese businessman and co-founder of Sony Corporation. Along with his partner Masaru Ibuka, Morita made Sony into a major organisation focused on cutting-edge technologies. Morita started out studying physics, graduating with a degree from Osaka Imperial University.
