When Salem died in 1994, his estate was divided between Khalid Bin Mahfouz who inherited his father's holding in NCB, his other four sons, Mohammed, Abdulelah, Saleh and Ahmed - who consolidated their inheritance into a holding company called SEDCO (Saudi Economic and Development Company) - and his widow and seven daughters.
Khalid bin Mahfouz was the second eldest son of Salem Ahmed bin Mahfouz, a Saudi who rose from being an illiterate moneychanger to the founder of the first bank in his country, the National Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia (NCB). Salem Ahmed then became the personal banker of the Saudi royal family.
