Plot. A cocky American athlete named Lee Sheridan (Robert Taylor) receives a scholarship to attend Cardinal College, University of Oxford in 1937. At first, Lee is reluctant to go to the college owing to his father, Dan's, (Lionel Barrymore) limited income, but he finally does attend.

Lee Sheridan, a young American comes to study at Oxford University, but is instantly disliked by other students, because of his brash and big-headed attitude. After several scrapes with the college professors, and the wife of the local book seller, he becomes a hero when he joins the rowing club.
