It has received mixed reviews, to put it nicely. Stephen Prothero and Aaron Hughes have panned it for being ideologically naive and ahistorical. I myself haven't read it in years, but when I did, I thought it was very bad, academically.
A History of God is a book by Karen Armstrong that was published by Knopf in 1993. It details the history of the three major monotheistic traditions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, along with some details on Buddhism and Hinduism.
