Susan Gordanshekan’s “A Dysfunctional Cat”, which is essentially one of the most awkward boy meets girl scenarios in cinema, is actually a refreshing (and sometimes painfully and hilariously real) take on arranged marriages in contemporary times.
After their marriage in Iran, Mina follows her husband to Germany. Language barriers and unemployment make integration difficult. A bedraggled cat, which Mina describes as dysfunctional, puts their life together to a tough test. Recommended for age 14 or older.
Mina’s family has introduced her to few potential husbands in Iran. She has rejected them all until she meets Kian, a surgeon who has travelled from Germany in search of a wife.
