Once in country, place your phone in airplane mode and it will be a GPS. No data usage needed. Sorry you don’t like it, but it worked well for me in other countries.

   Does the Irish map app still work?

   • It has worked fine but, when I downloaded fresh Irish maps a couple weeks ago, it said the app was no longer going to be supported. I use an American version at home (not as good as the Europe version) and it stopped working in the last week or so.

   What are some alternatives to a GPS in Ireland?

   • Another alternative is to bring a standalone GPS unit from home, preloaded with Ireland maps. It’s clunky, but if you have a unit you’re familiar with, that can reduce a lot of stress. Have a wonderful trip! I downloaded Sygic. They have a deal with TomTom so it looks and sounds more like a regular GPS.
