For preventive conservation reasons and also in order to display new works from the museum's collections, this second exhibition will present a history of fashion from the 18th century to the present day, while developing a transversal theme on the body in movement.
Since 1977, the City of Paris has operated the Palais Galliera as the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris, a permanent museum devoted to fashion. It displays exhibits of French fashion design and costume from the eighteenth century to the present day. The museum is closed in between exhibitions.
Emblematic paintings (The Duchess of Polignac by Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun and The Fashion Merchant by François Boucher, Nationalmuseum Stockholm) will be displayed alongside precious unpublished textiles, clothing and accessories, some of which have been specially restored for the exhibition.
