So that was The Following, folks. Obviously, the writers and producers didn't anticipate this being the last episode ever of the show as the seeds were definitely planted for Season 4. No, it didn't leave viewers dangling with a full cliffhanger, but Ryan Hardy's story wasn't over. And Annet Mahendru's Eliza -- and her shadowy boss -- remained at large.
And I have to say, I enjoyed Mahendru's role here. I think I'm just so used to her being a pawn on The Americans that it was fun to see her take control. Oh, and wield a machine gun. Essentially, it was her character that allowed this endgame to extend across two episodes since she busted in halfway through the second half, "The Reckoning," and captured both Ryan and Theo.
I won't be doing a full season review of The Following this year, but I thought I'd throw in some general thoughts about it so as to help put this review into context. I enjoyed Season 3 more than 2. I liked that it remained connected to Joe Carroll and Arthur Strauss but still took things in a different direction. One that didn't involve cults or devoted followers hidden among the tapestry. Sure, the FBI was still offensively dumb and tons of agents got slaughtered while they "stood guard" (there's a three-hour supercut in here somewhere of cops being totally physically ineffective), but I liked Theo.
