This Took Too Long! is the first episode of the second season of Quantum Leap, and the nineteenth episode of the series overall. It first aired on October 4, 2023.

Ben, while he does have his memories back, does not return home. His next leap takes him somewhere on a plane over Russia in 1978.

1978: Ben leaps into the bathroom on a military aircraft. He is angry he didn't leap home, and calls out for Addison and the rest of the team. In this case and throughout the leap, these calls go unanswered.

He is on an Air Force flight over Russia in 1978 posing as a civilian flight. The mission consists of the pilot; the commander, a serious, competent female Lieutenant Grier; Ben as an airman name Perez; and three other airmen who in some way got in trouble in the Air Force. There is a mysterious crate that the airmen speculate about, but Grier tells them not to touch it.

A surface to air missile (SAM) shoots down the plane, killing the pilot. Ben helps the Grier get the crate out of the fuselage before it explodes. The crew wants to move out, but Grier insists on staying with the crate and awaiting extraction.

A Soviet patrol arrives to search the site. The crew ambushes and detains the guards. Ben uses his Russian to avoid warning their command. Ben opens the crate, ignoring Grier's orders, and finds the crate is filled with bricks. They are decoys for the real mission.

They identify a radio relay station on a captured map, and decide to take the patrol's jeep there to boost a signal to the carrier in the Arabian Sea that can rescue them. Along the way, one of them steps on a land mine, but Ben figures out a way to keep it from exploding.

The crew reaches the radio station and learns that it is a full-fledged SAM site, but it can serve the purpose of reaching the carrier. Ben arranges an extraction right before dawn. Ben overhears that the Soviets have identified their flight was a decoy. They're going to shoot down three new flights that they've identified.
