At Center Nikita and Mr. Jones go over the remaining candidates that could be the mole within Section One. Nikita points out that she hasn't been eliminated. Mr. Jones tells her that she was when she was allowed to find him. He tells Nikita that Vates, a type of computer program that has been making some very accurate predications has offered an additional candidate as the mole--Michael. Nikita tells him that Michael died in an abeyance mission. Mr. Jones asks her if anyone actually saw Michael die. When she answers that no one did, he suggests that perhaps Michael escaped. After a moment, Nikita agrees that it's possible. She tries to take her leave, using a mission that is prepping as an excuse but Mr. Jones insists that she stay. He's moved the mission's departure for later in the day. "I really am concerned about Michael Samuelle," he tells her. "I want you to take charge, personally. If you find him alive, eliminate him."

"She doesn't have what it takes. This proves it," Operations tells Mr. Jones before he walks away. Nikita agrees. "He's right. I don't have what it takes." Mr. Jones thinks she does and he adds that VATES agrees. Nikita is dismissive. "The big computer in the sky?" "It predicted a time of chaos. Section falling apart faced by a powerful new enemy. It also predicted, for want of a better word a savior, someone extraordinary who would put everything right. "I'm no savior and you're mad to have such faith in a computer. "And every age lives and dies by its sacred totems. So why shouldn't we? Anyway, I think you've forgotten that I've been watching you for seven years. And I am sure you are what we need." Nikita tells him that she doesn't want the job. Mr. Jones tells her sympathetically that he didn't either. Mr. Jones leans forward and gives Nikita a kiss on the cheek before he walks away. Nikita remains, surprised by the gesture and and lightly touching the spot on her face. While she continues to stand alone, Section slowly comes to life around her.
