Hey guys, this review is going up basically a full week late, thanks to San Diego Comic-Con (and SDCC-related stuff after the fact), so sorry about that. Though I do hope you saw our Hannibal-related content out of the convention, including Christine Seghers’ write-up of the show’s panel, and my interview with Bryan Fuller, Hugh Dancy, Richard Armitage and Martha De Laurentiis (see below!). Also, I hope you all saw the sad, but not shocking, news that Hannibal, as of this week, is moving to Saturday.
But getting to the matter (and episode) at hand, suffice to say, Hannibal and Will’s reunion delivered. There big scene together in the museum was a wonderful one – poignant and sad and just packed with emotion. Fuller has done such a wonderful job portraying the connection between the two and whether you prefer to think of it as brotherly, buddies or beloveds, it’s besides the point of specifics… These two are “conjoined” as Will put it, and that’s been beautifully conveyed up until this point. They are trapped in a tragic push and pull and feel this bond, even as both fully intend to murder the other one. It’s lovely and demented and perfectly Hannibal.
Another terrific scene was Will and Jack confronting Bedelia, with no one, not even Bedelia herself, really, playing along with her pretending to not know who she was. This was a really funny scene, from Will’s “You need to get over yourself “ to Jack’s, “You’ve been freebasing your alibi... and I’m not even mad at you!” and Gillian Anderson was terrific as the loopy, yet not all-gone, Bedelia.
We finally got Hannibal, Will and Jack reunited in this episode and man was it a bloody mess of a time. There were some terrific scenes throughout involving all three of those characters and Bedelia, as everyone’s oh-so complicated relationships rose to the surface. And Mason has proven to be quite the notable fly in the ointment here….
Jul 10, 2015 · In “Dolce,” Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will (Hugh Dancy) finally meet again, together for the first time since the attack last season that sent every major character off in a different figurative corner, scrambling for stability and absolution.
Jul 13, 2015 · Hannibal manages to recue both of them and sets about trying to brainwash Clarice into believing she is his long-gone sister Mischa, using behavioural therapy and psychotropic drugs.
Jul 13, 2015 · HANNIBAL, 3.6 – ‘Dolce’. “If I saw you every day, forever, I’d remember this time.”. That could be a line from, say, The Notebook, but it’s actually delivered by Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) during his overdue reunion with Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) in this week’s episode, “Dolce”.
