    Make 'em Laugh is the fourteenth episode of ALF's fourth and final season. It originally aired on Jan. 8, 1990.

    Kate and Willie are watching a late night comedy show hosted by Larry Slotkin, which ALF finds corny, ALF says he can be a good comic too.

    Act One

    ALF is in the attic late at night on a typewriter coming up with some jokes for a comedy routine. Willie is awakened, and ALF tells him some of the jokes which Willie finds no good. Willie leaves and ALF falls asleep. He has a dream where he's in a comedy club and Larry Slotkin is performing. He then meets Howie Anderson another comedian who's overweight and says nervous because it's his first time. ALF suggests that he do jokes about his weight. ALF goes on stage and tells some jokes about Melmac, and the audience laughs enthusiastically. He's a big hit, and the host is ecstatic. He's then introduced to Brandon Tartikoff the head of programming at NBC and ofers him his own sitcom because they're desperate. The Tanners come in and tell ALF he was great and are still laughing. A montage of newspaper articles and calendar dates begin showing ALF has become the most popular comedian alive. At the Tanners, Lynn is helping ALF open his fan mail. Willie mentions he got an offer to be on "Charles in Charge" and Barbara Walters invited him to be on the Oscars. The doorbell rings and it's Mrs Ochmonek. She comes in and enthusiastically invites ALF to come over and entertain her bridge club. He autographs a photo for her and sends her away. Kate then mentions he been given a lifetime achievement award . At the award ceremony, the host mentions ALF is running a bit late but he's in the building. He comes on stage and not being a speechmaker, he tells the same old jokes which he's jeered at and a heckler says he wants to hear new jokes. He's booed of stage and the host takes his award away

    Act Two

    Another montage comes up showing newspaper ads of ALF's career plummeting, and ALF asleep at the typewriter. ALF is on the phone asking someone to tell Barbara Walters he's ready to do her show. Woody Allen called to tell ALF's confirmed everything he felt about television. Lynn tells ALF that his "15 minutes" are up. Another calendar montage comes up. Ten years later in the Catskill mountains a circus plate spinner is at a nightclub and ALF comes in to tell him his time's up. ALF is now an emcee and tells his old jokes again deadpan style and the audience pretty much ignores him, He reminds the audience that they should laugh, and his next joke is interrupted by the bartender's blender to which an audience member says he'd rather hear. The nightclub manager. Mr. Polniakoff then hands him a mop and tells him to clean up the vomit on table 4. He heads over to, and then Howie Anderson shows up and the audience is very happy to see him. He wasn't planning to perform, but humors them. He tells his bit about scaring the staff at all you can eat buffets by making them think he's going to eat the whole restaurant for $5.99 ALF heckles him but then Howie recognizes him saying that ALF has become an example of what *not* to do. Later after the bar has closed, ALF is drowning out his sorrows with drinks, and the Tanners come in. Lynn has become a studio head and Brian has gotten his own series. ALF asks if he can be a guest on the series and Willie offers his own room. ALF asks Lynn if she can get him a film role, and then Kate explains Eric's absence saying he's been busy since he replaced Scott Baio on "Charles in Charge" ALF asks Willie for his old room back. ALF's boss asks where he's going and offers to start paying him. Willie tells him not to listen, ALF doesn't want to give up show business. ALF then wakes up from his dream, Kate and Willie are there and ALF tells them about his dream and he's given up on being a comic. Kate tells him breakfast is almost ready, and Willie says he must be *staaarving* (a reference to one of Howie's jokes) and that "Eric in Charge" is almost on TV. ALF is still dreaming and wakes up for real this time
