This is the on-site visitor center for Old Salem. St. Philips Heritage Center
TheSt. Philips Heritage Centeris thought to be the oldest African American church still standing today in North Carolina. It was built in 1861, and the facade remains a symbol of the black experience within the Moravian community. It was even in continuous use up until the 1950s. On special occasions, the heritage center will still host worship services. The museum inside the restored brick building explores the history of slavery and segregation within the church.
