The Rhodes Tower was designed by Brubaker/Brandt and Dalton, Dalton, Little, and Newport in a Modernist style. It was conceived in 1969 as a way to consolidate state offices in one building and give more space to legislative offices in the Ohio Statehouse.
Two architectural firms collaborated on the project: Brubaker / Brandt Inc. of Columbus and Dalton - Dalton - Little & Newport of Cleveland. The project was completed in 1975. The Tower stands 629 feet high with 41 floors containing 1,400,000 square feet.
Function. A single-function tall building is defined as one where 85% or more of its usable floor area is dedicated to a single usage. Thus a building with 90% office floor area would be said to be an "office" building, irrespective of other minor functions it may also contain.
