Mark Lavon "Levon" Helm (May 26, 1940 – April 19, 2012) [1] was an American musician who achieved fame as the drummer and one of the three lead vocalists for The Band, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Levon Helm passed away yesterday - he was the drummer and singer for The Band and recently, he enjoyed a revival in the Folk/Americana vineyard, with his 2007 and 2010 records winning Grammy Awards. I'm watching The Last Waltz now and were it not for Muddy Waters and Van Morrison, Levon would have been the star of the show.
