Largest and most important "Macquarie" town on the Hawkesbury River. Windsor is the largest of the Macquarie towns and, as such, is the administrative centre of the Hawkesbury area. Governor Lachlan Macquarie established the five Macquarie towns in the Hawkesbury Valley - Windsor, Richmond, Castlereagh, Wilberforce and Pitt Town in 1810.
A little over an hour by road or train, 56 km north west of Sydney, you'll find the historic Windsor township. Set on a high bank of the magnificent Hawkesbury River, at the foot of the Blue Mountains and surrounded by beautiful National Parks.
