Savalas won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Detective Kojak in the television series Kojak (1973–1978). He also received a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the series. Savalas died of prostate cancer in 1994 at the age of 72. He was survived by his wife, Julie, and their two children.
