Cornwell moved with his family to Tacoma, Washington, where he attended Stadium High School. After graduating from Stadium, Cornwell enrolled at Occidental College in Los Angeles in 1965.
W. Don Cornwell joined the Viatris board of directors in 2020. Mr. Cornwell served as chairman and chief executive officer of Granite Broadcasting Corporation from 1988 until his retirement in August 2009 and served as vice chairman until December 2009.
