Jul 27, 2023 · He moved to New York City’s East Village art scene after Scanners. Lack became part of the vibrant downtown art community in the early 1980s. He befriended and found inspiration in Jean-Michel Basquiat, an emerging young painter at the time who would soon skyrocket to fame.
Lack was born 1946 in Montreal, Québec, Canada. He graduated from McGill University in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. In 1969, he earned his master of fine arts in sculpture at Universidad Guanajuato in San Miguel, Mexico. Mr. Lack, a world-renowned painter, also acted in nine movies.

Stephen Lack is an artist and filmmaker living and working in NYC. His early films "Montreal Main" and "The Rubber Gun" explored the ambiguity of sexual relationships in the promiscuous downtown scenes of Montreal and were premiered in the New Directors programs at the Whitney Museum and MOMA NY in the '70's.
Stephen Lack was born in Montreal in 1946. He graduated from McGill University in 1967 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. He completed his MFA in sculpture at the University of Guanajuato in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in 1969. He has been living for many years in Salem, Upstate New-York and he keeps a studio in Manhattan, N.Y.
