I was doing some googling and found that before 2011, in Nevada, the statute of limitations on statutory rape was only 4 years. So if the victim came forward more than 4 years after the rape (which it seems like what happened as Tom said the victim was over 18 at the time of the trial) then they probably couldn't charge him with a sex crime.
