Sun Choke is an experience, not a full story. We connect with Janie only for a brief amount of time, and witness a mere sampling of what Cresciman’s subject is capable of.
The movie chooses to leave most of the history ambiguous, save for a few flashbacks, and instead focuses on the characters and their current situation. It is a slow movie, and admittedly a strange one.
Sun Choke (2015) follows a woman who suffers a severe mental break and is trying to get herself on track when she becomes obsessed with a stranger. This was a really dull film, it started off intriguing but didn't go anywhere and all the atmosphere built up was completely wasted.
In my opinion this film was good, not great. Acting and characterization was good, cinematography was good, had some brutal and effective scenes, but overall it seemed like there wasn't really a message the film was trying to convey deeper than "captivity is bad."
