Since the 1980s, Hinsdale has restored many of its historic structures and builders have been encouraged to use the Georgian style of colonial architecture in keeping with the Hinsdale Plan of early civic leaders. In 1870, 43 percent of Hinsdaleans were originally from the northeastern United States.
