Staff on the wards begin planning patients’ discharge upon admission. Patients are assessed and referred – where appropriate – to relevant professionals such as a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
You have the right to discharge yourself from hospital at any time during your stay in hospital. If you want to complain about how a hospital discharge was handled, speak to the staff involved to see if the problem can be resolved informally.
On the day of discharge you will be asked to have breakfast and be ready to leave the ward soon after. The Trust standard is for patients to leave the ward by 11am if possible to help accommodate patients waiting for admission.
