- Niffler. The first beast we meet in the film is the adorable but maddening Niffler that escapes from Newt's suitcase. Twice. Nifflers are essentially hyperactive kleptomaniacs, swiping everything shiny they can get their hands on.

Plot. In 1926, British wizard and "magizoologist" Newt Scamander arrives in New York City. He observes Mary Lou Barebone, the non-magical ("No-Maj" or "Muggle") head of the New Salem Philanthropic Society, preaching that witches and wizards are real and dangerous.
Newt Scamander ( Eddie Redmayne) travels from London to New York City with a briefcase full of magical creatures, or fantastic beasts. When he arrives, his case is inspected by a customs official, but Newt is able to hide the magic from muggle eyes.
