Reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces
- A 58 mm polarizing filter to reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass or pollution in the atmosphere and enhance colour saturation for bluer skies and greener leaves. The polarizing effect of this filter helps prevent glare from your shoots, whilst providing greater clarity for better results.

What size polarizing filter do I Need?
Polarizing filters work by stopping some light waves from entering your lens. Light waves reflect off uneven surfaces in different directions. A polarizing filter only allows light to enter the lens that’s coming from certain directions.
Apr 19, 2012 · Canon Powershot s95 + Circular Polarizer. If I need to, I'll use a Circular Polarizer with the s95 and the G11. I just hold the Polarizer in front of the lens and turn it with my free hand until I get the results I'm looking for. I certainly don't use a filter mount on a camera this size.
Mar 26, 2008 · If your camera has through the lens metering and/or autofocus, as almost all do today, you will need a circular polarizer. You may want to read the entire article. It discusses all filters for digital cameras, including the reflection issue and the polarizer that is talked about above.
Without getting too scientific, light waves that bounces off water, leaves, glass, and other reflective materials become polarized, which means they vibrate in a special way; polarizing filters are designed to block this polarized light from reaching your camera sensor.
Jun 1, 2022 · 2. Filter size. (Image credit: Future) You’ll need a polarizing filter that’s the same size diameter as your lens; our Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens requires a 77mm filter. The diameter is marked on the lens in millimetres and is usually prefixed with a Ø symbol. 3. Shoot at right angles. (Image credit: Future)
Jun 22, 2015 · Handholding a circular polarizer (or, heck, a pair of polarized sunglasses) in front of the lens of your Powershot G51 is not your only choice. Quite a few (although not all) of the Canon Powershot G series cameras actually have a bayonet mount on them for an adapter tube, which will allow you to screw on filters.
Apr 27, 2022 · A circular polarizer, depending on the angle in relation to the sun, will help reduce reflections/glare or even lead to deeper blues in the sky. Having said that, you typically want the direction of the sun and direction of the lens to be at 90º for the best effect. Is a lens hood useful at that angle? I'd say a bit.
