- Bedelia is a well-crafted suspense movie with memorable characters and performances. Margaret Lockwood is a treat to watch as her pathological insanity slowly reveals itself. The plot is simple yet captivating and (despite everything being laid out rather too obviously) the uptempo direction works well to keep the spectator focused.

Comfort lays on the atmosphere thick, especially in the third act when a snowstorm and howling winds trap Bedelia and Charlie at home, forcing intimacy just when a gulf of psychic distance has sprung up between them.
Reviews. Bedelia Carrington is living happily, it appears, in Monte Carlo with her husband Charlie Carrington. But a cultivated young artist, Ben Chaney, begins probing into her past with curious concern.
Both films make female portraiture a central plot point, and even though Laura is unquestionably the better story, I think Bedelia has some unsuspected depth. Bedelia, a serial murderess of at least three husbands, gets married for a fourth time to a man named Charlie Carrington.
