The study into the Grenfell family name really began in the 1980’s when Alison Stephen in Victoria, Australia and Arthur Coomb in Cornwall, England were carrying out independent research.
Pascoe Grenfell served several terms as Mayor of Marazion – in 1763, 1770 (jointly), 1777 & 1782 and is named on Marazion Borough Council regalia. He died 28 May 1810 aged 82 and was buried on 2 June in St Mary’s Chapel Yard, Penzance.

Grenfell was the recipient of many honours: he was a colonel commandant of the 60th Rifles from 1899 until his death and colonel of the 2nd Life Guards from 1898 to 1907, when he exchanged this colonelcy for that of the 1st Life Guards.

The parish of St Ives oversaw the Baptisms (1794-1837), Marriages (1756-1836) and Burials (1813-1837) of several Grenfell family members. There are also two Methodist chapels built in 1831 and 1845 in which several Grenfell family members were baptised (1832-1900) .
GRENFELL, JOHN GRANVILLE (1826 – 1866), son of Admiral John Pascoe Grenfell of the Brazilian Navy. Before 1854 Grenfell went to Australia to take up an appointment with the New South Wales Colonial Service.
