   Why is White Cross pub called White Cross pub?

   • The pub dates back to 1748, and is built on the site of a Franciscan friary whose remains are apparently in the cellars. The name is a reference to those holy origins. The interior is cosy, with a real fire roaring in the winter. We've not tried the food, but we're told the Sunday roasts are particularly recommended. On Twitter as @WhiteCrossPub.
