About Barbara Fisher. My work is about transforming interior narratives into a visual language. The paintings are made up of fragments of thoughts, gestural marks, and scribbles – hovering in undefined atmospheric spaces, sometimes facing off.
Mar 16, 2023 · My love of materials and the craft of art was finally being complemented by genuine personal backstory as well as knowledge of art history and philosophy. During this productive time (in my 30’s), I received my first grant. This, more than any commercial success I was having, gave me the confidence to fully commit to being a professional artist.

Barbara Fisher was born in New York City, educated in Colorado and California, and lived for many years on the West coast before settling in Asheville, North Carolina in 1998.
