Here is the video game “Escape Velocity”! Released in 1996 on Mac, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's an action, role-playing (rpg) and strategy game, set in an arcade, real-time, sci-fi / futuristic, shooter, trade and space flight themes.

Aug 27, 2007 · Escape Velocity: Classic Mac Gaming at its Best. Back in the old days of OS 9, Ambrosia once made an excellent series of games under the moniker Escape Velocity. The series started with Escape Velocity, then came EV Nova, and the series ended with EV Override.
Escape Velocity. An awesome space RPG series from the 90s and early 00s. Top down Asteroids style action with spaceship customization. Older games (EV and EVO) can be played on emulators or on Nova's engine (which you can run under WINE ).
How to play the original Escape Velocity... On your browser. Not sure if this is already well known, but there's a web browser MacOS 7 emulator, that includes Escape Velocity (As well as other Mac games, like Marathon). Not sure yet if the game requires registration.
