While out having dinner with Dr. Daniel Jackson, Vala Mal Doran is kidnapped by The Trust, led by the Goa'uld Athena, who once allied herself with Qetesh to get to the Clava Thessara Infinitas. Vala escapes, but loses her memories, and now works as a waitress in a diner. It is now a matter of who will retrieve her first, the Trust, or SG-1.
For some reason, Vala Mal Doran is working as a waitress in Sol's Diner. She gets along well with the customers and the cook. Suddenly, a pair of criminals attempt to rob the restaurant. Vala quickly takes them down in hand-to-hand combat much to everybody's surprise, including Vala's. The scene then rewinds three weeks earlier to a fancy restauran...

I think the writing of other non-Goa'uld women in SG-1 was so caught up in not being sexual, that they came off as stunted. Of course this was eventually played up as Sam's character arc, but Vala was clearly put in to offset Sam's frigidity.
Apparently, the original idea was to have an all-new show (called Stargate Command) with a new team led by Mitchell and containing Vala (as well as a couple new people who never got used). That would have been better than what actually happened, I think.
Vala then traveled with SG-1 to Kallana on the Prometheus where they beamed down to the planet. However, SG-1 was unable to get the Prior to stop, so they detonated a Mark IX Nuclear warhead instead, which caused the force field to expand around the entire planet.

Sep 8, 2006 · Jackson locates Vala first, and jogs her memory by telling her that she's been running so long its second nature, but she's made the decision to stop running. Once Dr. Carolyn Lam has cleared her for active duty, Vala reunites with SG-1 and Landry in Jackson's lab – her memory fully restored.
